Understanding Palliative Care

Palliative care is often misunderstood. Many people associate it only with end-of-life care, but it’s much broader than that. Palliative care is specialised medical support for people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families and carers.  It focuses on improving quality of life, increasing comfort, managing symptoms, and offering emotional, social, and spiritual support to both the person with the condition, and their loved ones.
