Help make another night at home possible
For many people living with a life-limiting illness, there is nowhere they would rather be than home.
Home is where they feel comfortable. Where their things are. Where their family is. Where they can be themselves.
But as an illness progresses, caring for someone at home can become harder — especially through the night.
A family member may be awake for hours, helping with medications, repositioning their loved one, managing symptoms or simply keeping watch.
They can be exhausted. They can be worried. And sometimes they may reach a point where they wonder whether they can keep going.
This is where an overnight nurse can make a world of difference.
An overnight nurse can stay in the home through the night, providing skilled nursing care, monitoring symptoms, providing comfort and reassurance, and supporting the person and their family.
Most importantly, their presence can give a family carer the opportunity to rest.
It can mean a husband can sleep for a few hours.
A daughter can step away from the bedside.
A family can feel reassured that someone experienced is there if things change.
And it can help make staying at home possible for a little longer.

Banksia’s specialist palliative care is provided free of charge to our community.
Government funding supports the core care we provide, but it doesn’t cover everything a family may need at the end of life.
