Community Conversations Program
Do you belong to a community group that is interested in finding out more about palliative and end-of-life care?
At Banksia, we’re passionate about starting meaningful conversations about palliative care, and we warmly invite community groups to connect with us. We believe that sharing knowledge and encouraging open conversations about living well with a life-limiting illness is vital to fostering a compassionate, informed society – one that values dignity, empathy, and human connection at the end of life.
Whether you’re curious about how to support someone with a life-limiting illness, want to explore what quality of life means in the face of serious illness, or simply wish to understand more about end-of-life care, we’re here to talk – openly, honestly, and with heart.
Our presentations are free and delivered by experienced staff and trained volunteers. Each session is tailored to your group’s interests, with time always set aside for questions and discussion.
Topics for conversation
What is palliative care?
Palliative care is often misunderstood. In this session, we’ll break down common myths and clearly explain what it is, when it’s needed, and how it supports comfort, quality of life, and wellbeing.
Grief & loss
Grief is something we all experience, but often don’t talk about. This session explores how grief shows up, before and after loss, and helps build confidence to support ourselves and others with greater understanding and compassion.
How to care at home
Caring for someone at home involves many considerations. This presentation will outline what to expect, provide practical tips, and highlight helpful resources available to support you.
It is designed to help you feel comfortable to care for a loved one at home, while also building understanding within the community about how best to support families on this journey.
Advance Care Planning
Advance Care Planning (ACP) is the process of planning for future health and personal care, so that individuals can document their values, beliefs, and preferences for care if they lose the capacity to make decisions.
We’re passionate about this subject because planning for health care helps us understand the people we’re caring for and then provide care that respectfully aligns to their wishes.
